The event has been put together by a great committee consisting of the owner of Rick’s Music, Rick Santos, his wife, Robin Santos, Robert Miller, and Miller’s daughter Rebecca. The group got together a few months ago with an idea to use music to make a difference and the melody began to write itself. Robert Miller said “It is only through the kindness and generosity of so many that this very special event is happening. While MDA has long been close to our hearts, this benefit concert provides us an opportunity to make a real contribution and make a difference”

The night features performances by Grace Morrison and the RSO, The Dave Richardson Band, Mad Gryphon, Rebecca and Robert Miller (and friends), and surprise special guests! The event will include silent auctions, raffles, great musical performance, and of course the satisfaction of supporting a great cause.
All proceeds from this event are donated to the the Muscular Dystrophy Association and MDA of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. Our MDA chapter is presently serving over 900 families in greater Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts communities. Services include comprehensive healthcare at clinics at Rhode Island Hospital, UMass Memorial Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, New England Medical Center and Lahey Clinic in Burlington. MDA also provides week-long sessions at local MDA Summer Camps in New Hampshire and Connecticut, for affected children in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts between the ages of 6 and 17. Support group services, medical equipment repairs, advocacy, flu shots, and worldwide research efforts are also funded by money raised at events like Music for MDA.

If you or anyone you know can donate an item to be auctioned or raffled, it would be very much appreciated. We will send along a brochure and letter to give to business owners, and others, which explains the event. Just let us know! Businesses are quite used to getting asked for gift certificates and/or auction items – the key is to ask them BEFORE everyone else does. You’ll be surprised how many business owners are willing to help support such an important cause.
Here are some suggestions to help you think of people or merchants you can approach to ask for items we can use for our raffle and silent auctions:
• Photographers for family portrait
• Sports Memorabilia
• Spa Services
• Original art and photography
• Electronics
• Jewelry
• Legal Services
• Tax preparation
• Owners of vacation homes or time shares may donate a week or weekend getaway
• Season ticket holders to theater, concerts, or sporting events may donate seats for an evening
• Anything else you can think of!
We thank you for your kind support, and for helping to make a difference in the fight against these devastating muscle diseases.
With warmest regards,
Rebecca Miller and Pat Glazer, Music for MDA Event Coordinators
